Singapore’s Temasek Holdings is a long-time champion of Australian innovation, having invested in v2food, all three of Main Sequence’s Innovation Funds, and most recently, in Samsara Eco.
Earlier this year, Temasek co-led a US$65 million Series A+ fund round in Samsara Eco with CSIRO’s deep tech investment fund, Main Sequence.
Samsara Eco is an Australian envirotech startup that has developed a technology to recycle plastic waste. The investment will be used to develop new facilities in Southeast Asia to recycle millions of tonnes of plastic waste. Residual monomers – the molecular building blocks of plastics – can then be turned into new products.
Temasek has also invested in v2food, a leading Australian plant-based meat producer. v2food expanded to Singapore through SATS, a Temasek portfolio company.
Temasek has invested in all three of Main Sequence’s Innovation Funds. These funds have supported 53 Australian deep tech companies to date, including Samsara Eco, v2food, agritech firm Regrow and quantum firm Q-CTRL.
Samsara Eco’s planned expansion into Southeast Asia not only addresses environmental challenges but will create jobs and foster technology exchange across the region.
The investment aligns with the Australian Government’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040. The strategy aims to deepen investment ties and foster collaborative economic and industry growth between Australia and Southeast Asia.
